I just got some raw steak from my restaurant, its in my fridge. How long can I leave it in there?

I work at a really nice steak house. On saturday they gave me a big bag of raw steak and I put it in my fridge. I haven’t got a chance to cook it yet. Can I still cook it?

Also, I’ve never cooked steak before. Is there any specific thing to do? Its already been all marinated and has spices and whatnot.

Raw steak in the refrigerator should be used within 4-5 days for safety. Do you know how long the restaurant had the steak? You’ll have to be the judge if it is still okay.

If the steak has been marinated, you shouldn’t have to do anything to it.

    1. Meat should always be at room temperature before it is cooked.
    2. Remove your steaks from the refrigerator at least half an hour before you are ready to cook.
    3. Preheat broiler or grill to maximum temperature.
    4. (skip for already marinated) Rub both sides of the steaks with coarse or kosher salt and pepper.
    5. Place the steaks 3 to 5 inches from the flame to sear the outside and seal in the juices.
    6. Turn the steaks after 2 to 3 minutes.
    7. After the steaks have been seared on both sides, remove from the heat, and brush both sides with extra virgin olive oil.
    8. This will help form the crust that adds the touch of perfection.
    9. Return the steaks to heat and cook on both sides to a desired doneness.
    10. Transfer to warmed dinner plates or a platter, and let rest five minutes before serving.

its better that you wrap each one with cling film & freeze it if you are not going to cook it in the coming 2 days because it will bleed alot & its colour will change, when you want to cook it just thaw it overnight in the fridge or leave it for few hours at room Temperature than cook it in a very hot pan 3 minutes each side & if you like it well done put it for 5 minutes after that in the oven

If you are going to eat it more or less immediately, you can leave it in your fridge, while well sealed, for around twenty-four hours safely.

However if you aren’t going to eat it right away, wrap it up in cling wrap, making sure that as little air as possible is in the wrapping (this helps prevent freezer burn), and freeze it. You can also coat the meat in a layer of oil to help preserve it before freezing.
